About the Conference

Digital technology continues to affect nearly every aspect of life, including court operations and trials. The 2023 CLCT Court Affiliates Conference will address key elements of how digital technology interfaces with court operations and trials. In addition to the critical information sharing that is part of the Court Affiliate Reports, our topics will include:

• Unrepresented litigants and the court: from court navigator technology to digital evidence presentation at trial;
• Choosing courtroom technology in the age of technology abundance: standardization vs. economy and specialization;
• Digital manipulation of evidence; deep fakes and trial evidence.
• And, of course we will address large language models like ChatGPT.

The Conference keynote address will be provided by Professor Karim Benyekhlef, Director of the University of Montreal’s Cyberjustice Laboratory, and member of the university’s Centre de recherche en droit public.

As always, in-person attendees will be able to enjoy the delights of 18th Century Colonial Williamsburg. However, this year, that will be augmented by the opportunity to see the world’s first remote life-size 3-dimensional holographic testimony in the McGlothlin Courtroom.

Airport

The nearest airports are the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport (17.7 miles, PHF), the Norfolk International Airport* (42.2 miles, ORF), and the Richmond International Airport (45.5 miles, RIC). Taxi service and rental cars are available for transport to and from the airport.

Uber & Lyft

Uber and Lyft prices for one way transportation to the W&M Law School from the hotel (4.8 miles) will cost approximately $9. Prices are subject to change and are only estimations.

* Please be aware that landing at ORF will require navigating heavy traffic, including the bridge tunnels, which causes travel times and costs to vary significantly. Most choose to come in through the RIC or PHF.
